Cyd Glover

CYD GLOVER-HILL BIOGRAPHY Born in Los Angeles, California, Cyd Glover-Hill grew up in a single parent household, headed by her mother Elaine Glover, who instilled in her the importance of faith and discipline. She graduated from St. Bernard High School in Playa Del Rey, California, and went on to study Public Administration at the University of Southern California (USC), graduating with a B.S. in Public Policy and Management. Desiring to exhaust some of Cyd’s three-year old energy, her mother enrolled her in dance classes at a local park in Carson, California, under the direction of the late Paul Kennedy and his sister, Arlene Kennedy (the founders and artistic directors of Universal Dance Designs). She went on to study under Broadway dancer and choreographer Bruce Heath, the late ballet master Gerald McCall (of Dance Theatre of Harlem), famed modern dance guru Ka-Ron Brown-Lehman, and choreographer to the stars, Wayne Bascomb, to name a few. Her performance credits include the Tip Tap Festival (Rome, Italy), the Tony Award winning Broadway musical Black and Blue, Jazz/Tap Hip-Hop Tour (Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival), A Gala For the President, two episodes of Cool Women (dir. Debbie Allen), the season finale of The Gregory Hines Show, numerous award shows, movies, and stage productions. Cyd’ s vision extends beyond the stage and television. Longing to reach out to the undiscovered talent of the inner city, Glover-Hill assembled her own non-profit dance company, Art In Motion Youth Dance Company (AIM) in 1997. In addition to having created over 20 pieces and ten stage productions for her own company, Glover-Hill has choreographed for Anita Mann Productions (Tap Girls), “Ladies In Hats” film (dir. Brandi Brown), “For His Glory”, “The Legend of the Chocolate Nutcracker”, “The Gift” production at West Angeles Cathedral, the Black Choreographer’s Showcase (Los Angeles Theater Center), and many recording artists, including: Mya, Coming of Age, Erika, Justified and Hymn. Cyd is a recipient of the James Irvine Foundation’s “Dance to Creation” Grant Program, chosen as one of 18 out of 256 choreographers. She is also the choreographer for special projects and the adult dance ministry at West Angeles COGIC, under the leadership of Bishop Charles E. Blake. Constantly striving to inspire the next generation of artists, she is developing a curriculum that focuses on developing “whole” artists. Glover-Hill has co-owned (with her mother Elaine Glover) three performing arts studios. Glover-Hill’s students have won several awards and honors, including the Hal Jackson Talented Teen Award and the NAACP ACT-SO Awards, and have gone on to graduate from UC Irvine, Howard University, Cal State Fullerton, and the Ailey Program at Fordham University; to perform with the Rockettes, the Laker Girls, in the Broadway musical the Lion King, and to lead church dance ministries. Not satisfied with “dance as usual”, Glover-Hill is committed to re-establishing God’s original purpose for the arts – to unite the creation and the Creator. She looks forward to manifesting The Creator’s Space Performing Arts Center, a state of the art facility for the arts, and expanding and intensifying her artistic canvas and vision…“If dance were freed from the bonds of commercialism, it will find its way back to its sacred roots – the foundation beneath all arts and culture.” –Ruth St. Denis Cyd Glover-Hill is happily married with two beautiful children.
